Bethesda and Lucasfilm Games have teamed up to produce a new Indiana Jones game being developed by MachineGames, developer of Wolfenstein: The New Order. Along with a 30-second teaser video, Bethesda tweeted “A new Indiana Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, MachineGames, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with Lucasfilm Games. It’ll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news!” Both the Bethesda tweet and the one from MachineGames themselves emphasize “original story” meaning the game likely won’t tie into the new Indiana Jones movie that is in production right now.
This news follows yesterday’s announcement that all upcoming games from Lucasfilm will now be under the umbrella of Lucasfilm Games. It seems this is to group games together in much the same way Xbox and PlayStation have done with Xbox Game Studios and PlayStation Studios respectively. Speaking of Xbox Game Studios, it’s also interesting to note that this new Indiana Jones game could likely be an Xbox exclusive. There is no confirmation of release date or platform just yet but much like how Sony has kept Marvel’s Spider-Man as their console exclusive, Indiana Jones may be the game Xbox saves for themselves to bring more players into the Xbox/Windows ecosystem. But just because we only have a short teaser doesn’t mean we have nothing. According to a post on starwars.com, the teaser “may hold some clues” about the game so it’s time to put on our fedoras and get to cracking the code.
