Ubisoft just premiered the very first look of Far Cry 6 gameplay and it features a colorful and chaotic open world. The game is set in Yara, a lush island in the Caribbean full of tropical ecosystems and decaying urban landscapes. The story picks up 50 years after a violent revolution left the island isolated from the rest of the world.
In the reveal trailer from last year, we were introduced to Anton Castillo, the President of Yara, played by Giancarlo Esposito. Anton rules over Yara with an iron fist as he tries to reform the island back to its former glory. His brutal regime and harsh social reforms have pushed Yara to the breaking point. Which is where you come in. In Far Cry 6, you play as Dani Rojas and it’s your responsibility to ignite the revolution in Yara. Lead an army of guerrillas to fight for the freedom of the island. In short, it’s the classic Far Cry formula, but on a different backdrop. Though, I don’t have any complaints because I have been a fan of the series since Far Cry 2.
Now let’s talk about the gameplay. The game allows you to customize your look as you climb the ranks of the revolution. And that customization carries over to the vehicles as well, allowing you to build your own mode of transportation, be it stylish or functional. Thanks to Juan Cortez, the in-game weapon dealer for the guerrilla, Far Cry 6 contains the largest collection of weapons in the entire series, including a CD launcher that plays the Macarena and a minigun built from an old motorcycle engine.
I also want to mention one last thing. There is a $200 Collector’s Edition for Far Cry 6 which comes with the normal stuff like a physical map of the island, a soundtrack, some stickers, oh, and a replica flamethrower. No, it’s not at all functional (you need Elon Musk for that) but it’s the same one that Dani Rojas is seen using in the gameplay trailer a few times. Here is the full list of items that comes with the Collector’s Edition:
- Far Cry 6: Ultimate Edition
- Collector’s Case
- Artbook
- Set of 10 Stickers
- Flamethrower Replica
- Flamethrower Assembly Guide
- Exclusive Steelbook
- Selected Game Soundtrack
- Chorizo Keyring
- Map
- Season Pass
Fary Cry 6 will be available on October 7 on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Google Stadia, and PC. Though it was a unique decision to showcase the gameplay in widescreen and getting rid of all HUD, the game looks beautiful. To see it for yourself, check out the worldwide gameplay reveal for Far Cry 6. You can pre-order the game now to get access to the Discos Locos launcher and Libertad Chorizo.
