The Ascent, the debut game from indie studio Neon Giant, now has a release date. Set in a neon-drenched cyberpunk city The Ascent is a solo and co-op action-shooter RPG being developed by a 12-person studio composed of industry veterans who are credited for games such as Gears of War, Bulletstorm, and more.
In typical cyberpunk fashion, The Ascent lets players loose as an indentured worker in the corporate-run dystopian metropolis of The Ascent Group. When The Group suddenly shuts down, a power vacuum is created leaving the people of the city to struggle for survival while rival corporations and crime syndicates fight to fill that void. It’s down to the player, and up to three friends, to suit up and hold them off.
The game features classic RPG mechanics, allowing players to fully customize their characters, their cyberware, their augmentations, and more. A double-aim mechanic allows players to attack multiple targets on the screen.p Built on Unreal Engine, The Ascent is a gritty game packed with detail. The game targets 60fps and will have full 4K support on the Xbox Series X. There are no details as of yet about performance on Xbox One or the Xbox Series S.
“We have a very passionate and dedicated team and each person in the studio has brought something new and great to the overall experience of The Ascent, so we’re really excited to share the planet of Veles with everyone and see what people think of the world our team has created,” said co-founder and Creative Director of the studio Tor Frick.
The Ascent will release on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on July 29. The game is available now for pre-order and will set you back $29.99 for purchase. If you’re an Xbox Game Pass member you’ll be happy to know that The Ascent will available on the service on day one. Click here to watch the official release date trailer.
