Zombies, it seems, will never go out of style as films and games keep finding new ways to make them fun again. World War Z: Aftermath builds on the original World War Z from 2019, which is inspired by the blockbuster film of the same name. Aftermath uses a next-gen version of Saber’s Swarm Engine which allows them to push past the boundaries of the original game. Aftermath features new melee combat systems, a new first-person mode, full cross-play between all platforms, and on next-gen consoles it will be playable in 4K at 60fps.

In World War Z: Aftermath you will continue to fight against the undead with up to three friends, or by yourself with AI teammates as you take down hordes of zombies. The story episodes span across a variety of new locations, taking you to Rome, Vatican City, and Russia’s Kamchatka peninsula. As you travel the world you’ll be able to take control of new characters as well as some familiar ones. The new melee combat system lets you duel-wield weapons, take down zekes with unique moves, and more. There will also be some new monsters to use these skills against such as flesh-hungry rats.

Additionally, Aftermath includes a new game mode entitled Horde Mode XL. This mode is exclusive to the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Horde Mode XL features hundreds of more zombies on screen than previously possible as you fight through wave after wave of increasingly difficult undead. You will also be able to level up eight different classes, including a new Vanguard class. Each class has its own perks and playstyles. You can also customize your weapons and complete new daily missions which have modifiers that allow you to unlock bonus rewards.

World War Z: Aftermath will be releasing later this year on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC for $39.99 with backwards compatibility for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. When you buy Aftermath it also comes with all content from the original World War Z. If you already own the original World War Z, you can upgrade to Aftermath for just $19.99. There is also a Deluxe Edition for the game that will come with a bonus weapon pack, weapon skins, and four days of early access, which will cost $49.99 for new players and $29.99 for anyone that already owns World War Z. The full next-gen version of World War Z: Aftermath will be out in early 2022 and will be a free upgrade to anyone who purchases Aftermath on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC.
