The Last Faith is a 2D Action-Platformer that is attempting to blend the best aspects of the Metroidvania and souls-like genres; brutal and precise combat, non-linear exploration, and larger-than-life bosses all set to the backdrop of a dark and moody gothic world brought beautifully to life with gorgeous pixel art. Developed by Kumi Souls Games and published by Playstack, The Last Faith is aiming to launch in 2022 on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
In The Last Faith, players take control of Eric, a seemingly capable individual who has no memory of his past and discovers that his mind is beginning to deteriorate. This affliction sets him on his mission which entangles them in a world of ancient religions and grotesque monstrosities. Players will discover and utilize a wide range of tools from melee weapons like swords and axes to ranged firearms to magic spells.
Throughout the gameplay trailer, we see a number of unique locations from ornate cathedrals and spooky forests to wintery mountaintops. The animations look snappy, emphasized by the harsh execution moves Eric is seen performing. The art style seems to blend visual inspiration from Bloodborne to a style that looks reminiscent of The Game Kitchen’s Blasphemous, but the combination of styles and aesthetics moves beyond those inspirations and achieves its own visual identity. Complimenting the slick visuals is a crunchy, impactful soundscape with suitably epic music.
The Last Faith popped up on Kickstarter back in 2020 and quickly surpassed its original €45,000 goal. Some of the stretch goals that were achieved by backers include a boss-only mode, a new game +, a survival mode titled “Tower of Despair”, voice acting for characters, and pixel art animated cutscenes among many others. There seems to be a fair amount of content coming to the game, and based on the trailer the game looks impressive and fun to play. Definitely, one to keep an eye on in the coming months. The wicked and the blessed will be judged the same – let nothing stand in your way when The Last Faith launches later this year. Let us know what you think of the game down in the comments.
