The first Dead Island was released back in 2011 and, despite a few spin-off titles, fans have been waiting a long time for a proper sequel to the open-world zombie survival game. Unfortunately, many have come to believe that the game would never really come out, seemingly stuck in development hell. That is until this morning, when an Amazon listing went live a bit prematurely, revealing a first look and new details about the game. This is the game’s description according to the listing:
A deadly virus is spreading across Los Angeles, California, turning its inhabitants into ravenous zombies. The city is in quarantine, and the military has retreated. Bitten, infected, but more than just immune, you learn to harness the zombie inside. Only you, and the handful of other swaggering fellows who happen to be resistant to the pathogen, hold the future of LA (and humanity), in the balance. As you uncover the truth behind the outbreak, you’ll discover who – or what – you are. Survive, evolve, save the world – just another day in LA! The much-loved zombie saga is back with a unique formula of horror, dark humor and over-the-top zombie-slaying, spanning an epic pulp adventure. Dead Island 2 is a thrilling First-Person Action RPG that takes players across a brand-new playground. Stylish, vibrant and flooded with zombie infection, explore iconic, gore-drenched Los Angeles. Meet larger-than-life characters. Slay countless foes in exquisitely bloody detail. And evolve to become the ultimate Zombie Slayer. See you in HELL-A!
The listing on Amazon has since been removed and the link now leads to a “sorry” page with cute dogs. So click here if you want to see that. Dead Island 2 is dated to release on February 3, 2023, and it seems that the game will have the next-gen tax. Putting the game at a $70 price point for the Day 1 Edition.
The game promises to deliver more of Dead Island’s blend of wacky weapon customization and intense survival gameplay. Players will also run into dozens of zombie types as they explore iconic locations around the City of Angels. You can pick any of 6 different Slayers that all have their own dialogues, and the game will feature a new skill system as well.
We don’t know why the listing went up when it did, but if I had to guess it’s either because there will be a gameplay reveal at Gamescom next week or because they felt threatened by the Goat Simulator 3 trailer. Whatever the reason, it’s nice that the game is still biting and coming out soon. Are you looking forward to Dead Rising 2? Let us know down in the comments.
