New Silent Hill Projects Announced at the Silent Hill Transmission

The new properties from the Silent Hill universe tie in quite nicely with the spooky season of October. And it was nice to see Red Pyramid Head still living its best creepy life, sinisterly waiting to scare the pants off me and many other players when the remake of Silent Hill 2 arrives. This is the long-rumored Silent Hill game that Bloober Team has been working on. This game will be a PlayStation exclusive for a year before going to other platforms. But that was only one of the announced projects from today’s Silent Hill 45-minute transmission.

The first of the other announced properties was Silent Hill: Townfall led by No Code and Annapurna Interactive which received a teaser trailer. There will also be a return to film with a third installment to the Silent Hill film series that began in 2006 from the same director, Christophe Gans, and producer, Victor Hadida. The film is aptly named, Return to Silent Hill. Check out the movie trailer here.

Next was the announcement that I am most interested in, Silent Hill: Ascension. This game offers an immersive and interactive experience that brings live streaming into the mix. This type of interactive media offers an additional layer to the experience of sharing scares with friends.

Finally, Silent Hill f will be a spin-off story within the Silent Hill universe whose final images evoked the fear of objects like honeycombs and sponges that have repetitive patterns or clusters of small holes, so beware those who suffer from trypophobia. The game’s story is by Ryukishi07 and will be developed by Neobards Entertainment.

I was praying for the continuation of P.T., also known as Playable Teaser, which was created from the twisted genius of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro but alas, my potential nightmares stay as ephemeral as the mists surrounding the town of Silent Hill. Konami has left a bad taste in many video game fans’ mouths with the cancellation of Hideo Kojima’s planned game Silent Hills which was released as P.T. in 2014. Konami later canceled that game and removed P.T. from the PlayStation store.

Additionally, during Konami’s corporate restructuring they’ve focused on making games for the mobile market to have sustainable profits rather than the uncertainty and large investment of AAA video game production of Metal Gear Solid and/or Silent Hill properties.

Ultimately, Konami’s return to Silent Hill has been highly-anticipated since the visible departure of Hideo Kojima back in 2015. Hopefully, Konami will recognize the importance of the audience whose money supports these projects but we’ll have to wait and see. What property are you most excited about?
