7 Best Co-Op Shooters on Xbox Game Pass

Share

Looking for some fun cooperative shooters to play with friends? You’ve come to the right place. we have a list of seven different games that we’ve played through in co-op ourselves. And to make things fair, we are not including Xbox classics like Gears of War and Halo because chances are, if you own an Xbox and/or have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, you already know about them. We had a good enough time playing these games to put them on our list so we hope you do too.

Army of Two

We’re starting with the oldest title in the mix. Army of Two was originally released back in 2009 for the Xbox 360 but thanks to backwards compatibility and EA Play on Xbox Game Pass, you can play the game on Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S. Army of Two (and its sequel The 40th Day) are third-person shooters made for two-player co-op. Play through a politically charged campaign centering on Private Military corporations while engaging in two-man missions with either a friend or AI companion. Though friend is much preferred.

Far Cry 6

Of all the games on this list, Far Cry 6 might be the most laidback. While other titles have tactical gameplay or intense combat, Far Cry 6 gives players the wide-open playground of Yara to explore. Party up with a friend to fight in the revolution against the island’s menacing dictator, played by Giancarlo Esposito. Keep in mind, however, that you can only play as Dani (female or male) and that during cutscenes that game sort of just addresses both as one Dani. But in gameplay, it’s rather seamless with both characters quipping away. If you’ve already played through Far Cry 6, then try Far Cry 5 instead.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands

Create a team with up to 3 friends and become ghosts, exploring the large open world of Bolivia. In Ghost Recon: Wildlands, players work to fight against Santa Blanca, a merciless drug cartel that is creating the biggest Narco-State in history. You have to stop them. Play to have fun or kick up the difficulty and test your tactical breaking skills. Customize your weapons and gear, journey through the landscapes of Bolivia with over 60 different vehicles, and take down the cartel. As a bonus, the game also supports HDR10 functionality on supported displays.

Remnant II

Remnant II is the sequel to the game popularly referred to as “Dark Souls with guns” so much like the Far Cry 6 recommendation, this is also a twofer. Remnant II lets you team up with up to 2 other players as you explore terrifying worlds to defeat god-like bosses. Playing through the first game (which is also on Xbox Game Pass), will not only help you understand the story better, but will also let you appreciate the work that Gunfire Games put into the second game to improve gameplay mechanics and systems. And it really cannot be understated that this game will test friendships as some of the bosses in this series are brutal to fight.

Sniper Elite 5

Any of the Sniper Elite games fit this bill but the only one currently on Xbox Game Pass is Sniper Elite 5. As part of a covert US Rangers operation, you are sent to France to uncover a secret Nazi project. use ziplines, slopes, and ledges to traverse through a variety of real-world locations (captured using photogrammetry) to bring down Operation Kraken. Sniper Elite 5 also has improved co-op mechanics from previous games, allowing players to share ammo and items, give orders, and heal each other. Oh, and not to mention the iconic slow-motion kill cams.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

You might think it’s intimidating to step into the Warhammer 40,000 universe and you would be right. However, for better or for worse, WH40K: Darktide takes it pretty light on the narrative. You, and your friends, play as a criminal of your own creation. After a lengthy character creation section that has you picking your background and home planet, you are hired to help take back the city of Tertium. Past that setup, the story is mostly drip-fed and can be largely ignored. Darktide is dripping with atmosphere with grandiose architecture and gloomy vistas that make you want to stop and take in the sights. If only it weren’t for the hordes of bloodthirsty foes trying to kill you.

World War Z

World War Z is a video game set in the world of the World War Z movie starring Brad Pitt which is notoriously different from the book it’s based on. Thankfully, World War Z captures the chaos and intensity of the zombie apocalypse by throwing hundreds of not-zombies at the player. The game has both a co-op campaign and a multiplayer mode. While the narrative is thin, the campaign is structured sort of like a Left 4 Dead game, ushering players through a variety of globe-spanning locations while they mow down hordes of Zekes.
